Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders / Technical Assistance Project For the past seven years, the BWJP Criminal and Civil Justice Office has coordinated the Comprehensive Technical Assistance Program for the Department of Justice/Office on Violence Against Women’s Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders. Communities that receive these grants are working to establish or improve a coordinated criminal justice response to domestic violence cases. These funds support efforts by prosecutors, probation officers, law enforcement agencies, advocates, and the courts to enhance victim safety and offender accountability. As part of the assistance to grantees, the Criminal and Civil Office provides:
In cooperation with other TA providers, the Criminal and Civil Office organizes specialized training institutes for prosecutors and judges. It also provides targeted TA for grantees on building the capacity of advocacy services and other professionals to respond to victims of abuse by law enforcement officers. The overall TA goal is to strengthen the grantees’ coordinated community responses by improving their ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems within their existing justice responses and by improving the knowledge and skills of the individual professionals involved in handling domestic violence cases.
