Dr. Shepard presents findings from two studies: a study exploring the perceptions of rural women on custody and visitation arrangements with abusive ex-partners and an examination of the successes and challenges reported by rural domestic violence programs that was part of the comprehensive rural TA Needs Assessment conducted by Praxis International on behalf of the Office on Violence Against Women’s Rural Grant Program. Ms. Scaia, MPA considers the implications of the research for practice. Ms. Scaia also discusses her experiences developing and overseeing the supervised visitation program that serves 6 northern MN counties. Finally, Ms. Scaia describes strategies for working with the courts to address post-separation child custody and visitation issues.
