What is teen dating violence and what are the challenges in addressing it How has the court system responded in the past and how can it change to make a difference in the lives of teens This webinar discusses these key issues of teen dating violence and highlight one court system's response, the Youthful Offender Domestic Violence Court (YODVC). YODVC hears misdemeanor domestic violence cases in which the defendant is between the age of 16 and 19, focusing on linking victims to specialized teen services while monitoring defendants’ participation in a free 12 week batterer program designed especially for youthful offenders. A dedicated judge, ADA, a victim advocate specializing in teen dating violence, and a batterer’s program designed especially for teens work together to create an environment of accountability and increased access to victim services.
