BWJP Welcomes Equal Justice Works Fellow

As an Equal Justice Works Fellow, Katie will work with BWJP to improve outcomes for battered women and their children by developing tools and trainings for Child Protection Services workers to better address cases involving domestic violence. With the assistance of individuals at BWJP, Katie developed a project aimed at helping both children and mothers in domestic violence cases and was selected via a competitive selection process to be one of 77 fellows for the 2017 Class Equal Justice Works Fellows. She is sponsored by Medtronic and Robins Kaplan, LLP. Prior to becoming an Equal Justice Works Fellow, Katie worked with BWJP on a number of projects relating to domestic violence and firearms, namely creating content for the website on disarming domestic violence offenders, drafting policy and amicus briefs, and conducting research on everything from state body camera laws to address confidentiality programs.

Katie received her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in May 2017, with concentrations in Bioethics and Health Law and Employment and Labor Law. During her time as a law student, she was a student director of the law school’s Mediation Clinic and externed with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights. Katie also was a co-student director of the University of Minnesota’s Intellectual Property Moot Court, in which she and her co-student director advanced to the National round of American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition. Prior to attending the University of Minnesota Law School, Katie received her undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, and a concentration in Women’s and Gender Studies.

BWJP is excited and honored to welcome Katie!
