Building a Community of Practice: Increasing Survivor Safety from Firearms

January 18, 2022

BWJP’s National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and Firearms is excited to announce a new project made possible with support from The Joyce Foundation

Over the next twelve months the project, Building a Community of Practice: Increasing Survivor Safety from Firearms, will form a community of practice that brings together domestic violence advocates, community violence prevention advocates, and criminal justice professionals from Cleveland, Ohio; Menomonie, Wisconsin; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Ypsilanti, Michigan. Each of these communities expressed, and was selected, based on their commitment to increasing safety for domestic violence victims by separating abusers from guns.

Through convenings, webinars, working groups, and a listserv, the project will enable participants to share promising practices for increasing survivor safety and highlight challenges and opportunities. It also explores the differential impact of gun violence on survivors from diverse communities and the need to both enforce firearm restrictions and develop alternative approaches to enhance survivor safety.

For more information on this project, please watch for updates on the BWJP website, social media and on the firearms website here: preventdvgunviolence.org
