Military Sexual Trauma: Survivors & VA Disability Benefits

Published by: Ronald B. Abrams, Esq., Tiffany P. Kelley, Esq.

The Department of Defense estimates that the vast majority of military sexual assault cases go unreported. However, approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 100 men seen for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care report a history of military sexual trauma (MST) when screened by a VA provider. Obtaining disability compensation from the VA for MST survivors can be a complicated process, particularly for those who did not initially report their assaults. Attendees of this webinar will learn effective tips and strategies for overcoming the obstacles of unreported MST and obtaining benefits for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as other mental disabilities that so many victims of MST experience.
