This conference is hosted by the Battered Women's Justice Project and is pending OVW approval; however, due to the pandemic it has been postponed and is being organized virtually for January 2021. Pre-registration will open in fall 2020.

Conference Overview

This conference brings together members of a coordinated community response (CCR) team to increase their effectiveness in addressing danger for victims by strengthening the role of, relationship between, and access to system- and community-based advocates. Participants will learn about tools that can be used by community-based advocates, system-based advocates, victim-witness coordinators, law enforcement and prosecution to assess a victim’s danger at different times and in different settings, and how to utilize tools to improve the criminal justice response to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence.

By attending this conference, participants will be better able to:

  • Incorporate innovative responses to assessing danger;
  • Address confidentiality concerns for victim safety in all areas of CCRs;
  • Discuss the utility of criminogenic and DV-specific tools for assessing danger in the context of a coordinated community response;
  • Organize practitioners to improve the criminal justice response and victim safety.

Who Should Attend

This event is open to OVW grantees that receive funding from the Improving Criminal Justice Responses (ICJR), STOP, and Rural programs. Priority is given ICJR Program grantees. Grantees are strongly encouraged to attend the conference in multidisciplinary teams involved in a CCR. Teams should include representatives from law enforcement (e.g. sworn, civilian, and law enforcement-based victim advocates), prosecution (e.g. prosecutors, prosecution-based investigators, and victim-witness coordinators), community-based advocacy, and other members of the CCR.

Pre-registration opens in fall 2020
