Conference Overview

The National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit invites you to save the date and pre-register for the National Training Institute on Protection Order Practice for Attorney and Advocates. This training is on protection order practice for attorneys and advocates who provide advocacy and representation to victims of intimate partner violence. Through the use of scenarios, demonstrations, interactive discussion, role-play, and mock hearings, participants will enhance their advocacy and trial skills. Topics will include full faith and credit, interstate custody, domestic violence related firearm prohibitions and other issues relevant to the issuance, service, and enforcement of protection orders.

As a result of this training, participants will be better able to:

  • Provide survivor-centered advocacy and representation to victims of intimate partner violence within ethical standards.
  • Apply advocacy and trial skills to assist victims seeking protection orders.
  • Tailor legal representation and advocacy to meet individual needs and enhance survivor safety.
  • Recognize laws and barriers that impact individuals seeking protection orders and tailor practice and advocacy to respond appropriately.

Who Should Attend

This program is offered free of charge and is open to attorneys and advocates who assist victims in the protection order process. The training is divided into tracks for attorneys and advocates, so please register based on your current position and work.
