This guide presents a model for understanding and responding to military and veteran-related intimate partner violence (IPV). It examines IPV’s relationship to co-occurring conditions common among current and former servicemembers -- to include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and substance abuse -- and recommends a community-wide approach to screening, assessment, and intervention. Implementation of the guide’s recommendations will assist communities to intervene more effectively and to prevent further violence in military and veteran families.
